Understanding the SpeakON App

Article type: Product Guide  |  Product: SpeakON App

What the app does

The SpeakON app turns your voice into text you can send anywhere on your iPhone. Open a text field in any app, speak, and SpeakON sends polished, context-appropriate text directly to your cursor. No keyboard. No editing.

It works with your iPhone's built-in microphone. If you also have the SpeakON device, the app connects to it and extends the experience with a physical Record button and offline recording.

Getting started

Download and log in

Download the SpeakON app from the App Store. Open it and log in. There is no separate registration step — logging in creates your account.

SpeakON supports three login methods:

  Apple

  Google

Email (verification code, no password needed)

If you use the same email address across different sign-in methods, SpeakON will recognize them as the same account.

Set up the keyboard

To use SpeakON inside other apps, you need to add the SpeakON keyboard to your iPhone once.

1.  Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.

2.  Select SpeakON from the list.

3.  Tap SpeakON in your keyboard list and turn on Allow Full Access.

After that, switch to the SpeakON keyboard in any app by tapping a text field, then tapping and holding the globe icon on the keyboard.

How voice input works

Tap any text field and switch to the SpeakON keyboard. Tap the record button, speak, then release. Your text appears at the cursor.

You can also record directly inside the SpeakON app if you don't need to insert text into a specific field.

Each session runs for up to 5 minutes. If you need more, press again to start a new session.

Features

Smart Polish

Smart Polish removes filler words ("um," "uh"), cuts repeated content, and handles self-corrections. You speak the way you think; the output is clean.

You say:

"Let's meet Friday... actually no, Monday morning."

You get:

"Let's meet on Monday morning."

Smart Polish is on by default. Settings:

On — polishes every recording automatically

Off — keeps exactly what you said

Ask — shows you both versions and lets you choose after each recording

Smart List

Smart List detects when you're listing items and formats the output as a structured numbered or bulleted list.

You say:

"Three things: meet the deadline, check quality, and send the report."

You get:

1. Meet the deadline   2. Check quality   3. Send the report

Smart List is on by default. Settings:

On — auto-formats lists when detected

Off — keeps all output in paragraph format

Attune

Attune adjusts the tone and register of your text based on the app you're writing into. You pick a mode; Attune applies it to match the platform automatically.

Mode

What it does

Off

Outputs your words as spoken, with Smart Polish applied

Casual

Conversational register, contractions, lighter tone

Professional

Professional but warm — good for work messages and emails

Formal

Full formal register for official communication

You say:

"Hey Emma, the report was due yesterday, we need it today, the client is waiting."

You get:

"Hi Emma, Just a quick follow-up — the report was due yesterday, and we'll need it today as the client is waiting. Thanks,"

Attune reads the app currently in focus and adapts the output accordingly. The same Professional setting writes differently in Gmail than in Slack.

Note: Attune only works when your transcription language is set to English.

Translation

Translation converts your speech into another language in real time. Speak in one language, receive output in another.

Default behavior:

  Speaking English outputs Japanese

Speaking any other language outputs English

You can change both the input and output language in Settings.

Managing your account

Signing in

SpeakON supports three sign-in methods. There is no separate registration step — the first time you sign in, your account is created automatically.

Sign in with Apple or Google

Tap the Apple or Google button and complete the prompt. SpeakON uses your Apple ID or Google account to identify you — no additional setup needed.

Sign in with Email

No password is required. SpeakON sends a one-time code to your email each time you sign in.

1.  Enter your email address and tap Send code.

2.  Check your inbox for a 6-digit verification code.

3.  Enter the code within 5 minutes to sign in.

If you enter the wrong code 5 times, you’ll need to wait 10 minutes before trying again. You can request a new code after 60 seconds.

Your account page

Tap Account in the bottom navigation bar to view your profile. From here you can:

Edit your display name — tap your name at the top of the page to update it

Manage your connected device — tap Device to view or disconnect your SpeakON hardware

Access app settings — adjust transcription language, Attune, and other preferences

Send feedback or reach support — use the Feedback or Discord options

View app version — listed next to About

Signing out

1.  Go to the Account tab.

2.  Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign out.

Your recordings and settings are preserved locally after signing out and will be available again when you sign back in on the same device.

Deleting your account

This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

1.  Go to the Account tab.

2.  Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign out.

3.  On the sign-out page, tap Deactivate account and confirm when prompted.

Deleting your account permanently removes all your data, both on your device and in the cloud.

Things to know

You must be signed in to use any SpeakON feature, including the keyboard.

Data does not sync across devices. If you sign in on a new device, you will start fresh.

Sessions last up to 30 days. After that, you will be prompted to sign in again.

Common questions

Do I need the SpeakON device to use the app?

No. The app works without the hardware using your iPhone's built-in microphone.

Does Attune change what I said?

No. It adjusts the wording and tone, not the content of your message.

What happens when my Pro trial ends?

Smart Polish, Smart List, and Translation stay available on all plans. Your word quota returns to the Free or Starter level. You can upgrade to Pro at any time from the Account page in the app.

Does SpeakON work in every app?

Yes, in any app with a standard text field — email, messages, notes, documents, social apps, and more.

Which iPhones are compatible?

Any iPhone running iOS 16 or above. Check in Settings > General > About.

Who owns my data?

You do. SpeakON doesn't use voice or text data for advertising. Disable cloud upload in Settings to keep all data stored on your device only.

What login method should I use?

Any of the three — Apple, Google, or email. If you use the same email address across different sign-in methods, SpeakON will recognize them as the same account.
